Before joining an Affiliate Marketing company I was helping run a family owned, For 25 years,  Construction General Contracting Company.  

Talk about two different worlds in Business.

I have been only doing this since 2008.  Before joining the online world? I never even put an Ad, Banner or built a Website before.  What is a URL?  I would ask. Thank goodness for having children.  My son showed me what to do.

Next came the hard part.  Finding the right Affiliate program to Market their products online and actually receive a commission.   Took a lot of trail and error.

There are thousands of Affiliate Marketing programs online right now. 

Research -

I can not express enough for you to do your research on any company you think you may want to join.  This is before you give them your credit card number. 

How many of you joined a Affiliate Marketing program and found out that there were hidden fee's? 

How many of you did give your credit card number to find out in the long run this is nothing like
    the site you clicked on told you? 

How many of you are still waiting for a refund? 

Choosing the Affiliate Marketing Program that is for you -

I would guess you should ask yourself these question(s) -

What kind of a Affiliate Marketing program do I want to join? 

How do I know what products are worth my time to market?

Would I have a chance of building a team of referrals below me to do the work for me?

 

All these questions I will answer below from personal experience.  I have not learned all those tips and tricks yet.  So I have no fancy words to be giving you that make no sense. I have not read tons of e-books to help me where I am today.  So I have none to recommend.

This is kind of like when you first learn to swim.  Just get out there and learn.

I have learned from a lot of  "Trail and Error" but I also rely on sponsor support.  I hope you will find this kind of support in any program you join.

What kind of a Affiliate Marketing program do I want to join? 
 
There is several types of Affiliate Marketing positions available online and off line.

"Pay Per Sale, Pay Per Click or Action and Shared Revenues, ".

I joined "Strong Future International" in 2008.  This company is based on shared revenues and pay per sale.  Many Marketing programs also involve pay per click.  Where as SFI has the Pay Per Action. 

Either way you look at it?  You have three ways to win right there.

How do I know what products are worth my time to market?

Supply and Demand.  You need to do some research on anything you want to sell. 

What is the demand for any item.

What is the supply. 

Most important, how saturated is the market right now for this product? 

When you do the search on any product online you will be faced with pages and pages of people trying to sell the same product.  What are your chances in selling the same product?

Question to ask yourself, how good are you at advertising?  I will talk more about advertising in my Affiliate Advertising article. 

For now, Keywords are important.  Both in Title and Text. If you are lucky enough to get a domain name with all keywords, even better.  If you are lucky enough to find a site to advertise that has few or none at all of the same product you want to sell, even better yet.

To sell a product you like to begin with you will find a easier time in selling.  To sell a product that is in high demand and you could care less about this product, I would think about this first before spending your money on advertising.  How could you feel good about yourself selling something you would not even buy?

Would I have a chance of building a team of referrals below me to do the work for me?

I read somewhere that said "Referring" is not the same as "Marketing" it yourself.   They both have a different meaning.  They also both go hand in hand. 

How do you think those Top Affiliate Marketers online become Top Affiliate Marketers?  By building a team below them to do exactly what they are doing.  Of course the commissions when this happens is not as high as if they did this themselves.  Get enough referrals it would make up for any loss.

One thing you need to remember is that not everyone that signs up to follow you will do just that "follow" you.  It takes time to build a team below you. 

Something you need to remember is that most, if not all, that join under you in any program have no idea in what to do. That is why it is important to watch those reports and see who your movers are and perhaps those that just stopped working. 

That is where you become the sponsor and teach them what you learned.
